Veïns de Parcent - Newsletter Nº 43 - 19th February 2007

Dear friends,

Winter Supper
A quick reminder to sign up for the Winter Supper Party at 9.30 p.m. on Friday, 23rd February at the Cooperativa by Wednesday (closed Tuesday). Menu only 12 euros each.

EU fact-finding mission
Full details of the visit will be available at the supper - as at the latest information we have, book Thursday, 1st March around 5 p.m. in the afternoon for this.

CDP meeting
We had a very productive meeting last Sunday and now have a strong list of candidates for the May Election. For obvious reasons, we will not be divulging the names of those on the list until much nearer the election date, but I can assure you that you will find them very acceptable as people willing (well, their arms have been twisted a bit!) and able to carry us forward as we would wish in the best interests of Parcent. They represent the many different facets of Parcent's population too, including, of course, us ex-pats. The CDP manifesto is being worked on now, to include the importance of a more democratic manner of government in Parcent, with transparency and consultation as a priority.

Veïns meeting
To help make it easier for non-Spanish residents to communicate with those in the Town Hall, we are setting up a branch of the Veïns so that all ex-pats can have a direct say in Parcent's future. Please come to a meeting to set this branch up on Monday, 26th February at 6 p.m. at the Piscina Bar (drinks will be available). We will inform you about plans for the coming elections, but we hope that this association will also lead to social and cultural events in which we can participate, both among ourselves in our different national groups, but also so that we can hold meetings and events with our Spanish neighbours, and so get to know them better - as we have already started doing during our protest campaign.

CDP finance
The CDP will not be allied to any other political party at these elections. There is no public funding available for printing or any other costs incurred in the run up to the election, so we hope that those of you who support our aims will be good enough to once more put your hands in your pockets to enable us to inform everyone in Parcent about what we stand for and what we hope to achieve in the next 4 years. It has been suggested that we have another supper as a fund-raising event, and we hope you will support this when it is organised - probably about the end of March. Money already raised through the Veïns for our legal battle will not, of course, be touched.

Parcent Bulletin
A newspaper has been published by the Town Hall in Spanish and English, showing what the present PP government has achieved in the last 3½ years. I hope you will read it and notice all the things that it does not mention as well ...... I say no more.

Best wishes - and see you soon!

Jenny
