Veïns de Parcent - Newsletter Nº 45 - 25th February 2007

Dear friends,

Just a brief reminder and confirmation of dates, etc (see if I can get it right this time!)

Meeting for all residents
We invite all non-Spanish residents to a meeting at the Piscina Bar and Restaurant at 6 p.m. on Monday, 26th February. This meeting is taking place under the banner of Veïns de Parcent and aims to set up a Residents' Group that can liaise with political parties and other bodies that affect our lives here in Parcent. This will enable everyone to have a say in events, in their own language, and any decisions, suggestions, complaints, etc. will then be relayed by our chosen representatives to the appropriate persons or bodies.

We will also give you information about the coming elections and the visit by the delegation of MEPs on Thursday.

MEP's Visit
We are expecting this delegation from the European Parliament's Petitions Committee to arrive in Parcent sometime after 4.30 p.m. on Thursday, 1st March, when they will have an opportunity to meet people from Veïns de Parcent first and then they will have a short meeting with all the members of the Town Council. We will have our "Before" and "After" posters and plan to have posters and banners on show in the village. Please wear your SOC DEL POBLE T-shirts - they can be pinned on your coat if it is very cold (Jacqui still has some on sale - 10 euros each) - and bring an umbrella again!

The Committee of the Cooperativa have turned down our request to meet there but we have an alternative meeting place which is ideal and we will give you those details on Wednesday. We hope that as many of you who wish to speak to the MEPs will have the chance to do so, though their time is very limited (they have to be in Benissa in time for a public meeting at 7 p.m.).

The MEPs, Marcin Libicki (UEN) and Michael Cashman (PES), accompanied by Kiell Sevon (Greens) and Witold Ziobro (UEN) (interpreters will be available) are here to listen to our legitimate complaints, backed by the decisions taken in support of our fight by the Síndic de Greuges, the Defensor del Pueblo, and the Tribunal Superior de Justicia (the Parcent Doctrine). They are well-informed about what has been happening here, so you do not have to explain in detail, just give your personal viewpoint. They are also interested in the environmental issues. We ask you to refrain from referring to PP councillors or any other local organisation in any way that could be construed as insulting, as this will be counter-productive. Also they are not here to hear about corruption, which is being dealt with by the Spanish authorities. We expect to have good Spanish and English media coverage, and reporters may well ask for your comments as well.

Full details of when and where to meet on Thursday will be given at Monday's meeting, and a rough timetable of events. We hope a good number of you will take this opportunity to take advantage of your right to express your legitimate views on Parcent and the plans being processed for its future.

See you on Monday and again on Thursday!

Jenny
