Veïns de Parcent - Newsletter Nº 57 - 29th May 2007

Dear friends,

First I would like to send you a letter from Jacqui:

Dear Veïns,

It has been a very hectic and emotional few days and I am taking a week out to visit my mum!

Before I go I want to thank every one of you for your support in making a CDP election win possible. I am proud of our community, of the energy and commitment from people in fighting for Parcent's future, and I am looking forward to starting work to put into practice the changes we believe are necessary in Parcent.

Thank you also for all those who have taken time to write to me and your kind words, but in the end it was not my victory but ours, working together as we have done in Veïns this past year and that is the way I intend our Town Hall to continue.

We are planning a celebratory supper (maybe on 16th June) and we look forward to seeing you all there!!!

Jacqui

I would like to add my own thanks to all of you have sent me emails after I informed you of the result. There was a nearly 100% turn-out of resident voters and your vote was crucial in returning the CDP to the town hall for the next four years. Unfortunately, we could have had more votes as some people missed arranging a postal vote in time, some could not be here to vote, and some were not on the electoral register even though they live here. I had hoped that we had "caught" everyone, but never mind, we won anyway. But if you need to get a vote for the next election, think about it now and go to the town hall to register. Please pass this newsletter on to neighbours and, if they have email, please let me have their addresses so that I can add them to the newsletter list.

As you may know, the result for the Generalitat Valenciana was that Francisco Camps got an increased majority there, which is not going to make our work in the town hall any easier. But your new councillors are ready to continue the fight to get what is right for Parcent!

Inauguration of the new council
The new councillors do not take over immediately. The old council will have a meeting on Thursday, 11th June to finalise outstanding matters (mainly approval of outstanding Minutes of previous meetings and possibly the accounts for 2006??). On that date the current financial position of the town hall will be made known – money in the bank, any debts outstanding, etc. – and no further payments can be made by that council.

The official take-over date is Saturday, 16th June, a few days after which the new mayor will be chosen and the new councillors of both parties will be sworn in.

All councillors, both on leaving and on entering the town hall have to make a declaration of their assets and these can be seen on request. Obviously any great increase in a councillor's assets during his or her term of office will be queried! New councillors also have to declare any interests they may have that would affect their work in the town hall.

The future of Parcent
Obviously everyone is anxious to know what is going to happen to the PAIs and the General Plan that are in the Conselleria at this time, waiting for approval. Your new CDP councillors ask you to be patient. They cannot do anything until they are sworn in but we "oldies" are doing all we can to prevent anything untoward happening in the interim. The Secretary assured me on Monday that there are still funds in the bank accounts, but an audit of the accounts will be one of the first things that is undertaken.

The future of Veïns de Parcent
Because Jacqui and Joan Carles are now both councillors, they will be standing down as members of the Committee for Veïns. We are all greatly indebted for their unstinting work on behalf of Veïns over the last 17 months and it is not an exaggeration to say we would not have achieved all the success that we have without them. We need to have an Annual General Meeting to elect a new Committee and the provisional date for this is Tuesday, 26th June at 8 p.m. in the Salon de Actos in the town hall. Everyone who has registered as a member of Veïns will be invited – of all nationalities of course – and we will be there to receive the report of the out-going chairman, review the Accounts, elect the new Committee, and consider future activities. These will include the forum already started for the residents so that we can discuss matters that affect us and be able to put them to the relevant authorities. Maybe the Spanish people will also want to set up a separate forum for the same reason. We will need volunteers for the Committee and to work on the forum, so please consider joining in and contributing towards the way Parcent develops.

I have already received a number of offers of help for the CDP and/or other residents in various ways and we will be following this up shortly. This newsletter will continue to bring news of interest to all those living in Parcent – not just about plans, but everything that makes life better for us all. Please let me have any items that you feel everyone should know about on any subject, and I will include them in future issues.

Victory celebration
Jacqui mentioned in her letter above that we will be celebrating our election victory on Saturday, 16th May, and I will let you have full details of time and place shortly.

AUN demonstration
I hope some of you will be able to go to the AUN demonstration in Valencia on 2nd June. I have already sent you details. It is important we keep the fight going – battles have been won, but the war is not over yet!

With all best wishes and huge thanks for your overwhelming support.

Jenny
