Veïns de Parcent - Newsletter Nº 61 – 18th June 2007

Dear friends,

Those of us who came to the CDP lunch at the Piscina after the council meeting at which Maximo Revilla was elected the new mayor (and given a standing ovation into the bargain), had a very happy afternoon celebrating our success at ousting the previous administration.

Maximo has started to work in the town hall already, and the team are studying all legal options for the cancelling of the draft general plans and the three PAIs. The CDP will have a group of advisors to help them draw up a new plan that will give Parcent sensible and sustainable and gradual development. Your opinions will be sought at each stage as they are drawn up. The CDP will carry out their manifesto promises - or they will have the VP to answer to!!

Jacqui has gone to Strasbourg today, to the European Parliament where this week they are debating the whole issue of (over-)development in Spain, so no doubt she will write a report and let you know what was said and decided. She will also be able to renew her contacts with all ''our'' MEPs and the others who work with them, all of whom have given us such wonderful support throughout our fight to stop the Parcent plans.

The Veïns really should have a General Meeting to elect a new Committee and President, now that Jacqui and Joan Carles are councillors. However, as I am going to be away this week and then again all through July and August, I would prefer to hold a meeting in September when we can convoke it properly and get everyone together to decide on our future activities. We also really need a new Treasurer as Estela is now working in Barcelona and I have been trying to get the accounts straight. If there is someone with some experience in this who would be willing to spend some time on them, I for one, would be most grateful. There are some discrepancies, but they cannot be straightened out until Estela is here to help with it.......

However, at the bottom of this newsletter I will give a financial summary of what we have done so far. As you will see, there is still money in the bank to cover any further lawyer's fees. The T-shirts and umbrellas continue to bring in a lot of money too. They are available from Jacqui (when she's back!) at c/Curtet no 4 (tel: 96 640 3868).

I noticed in the local press that Parcent's adult football team is second in the local league, behind Ondara. This is a great achievement considering they have had no real support from the town hall. Of the four games played, they have won two and drawn two. Do support them when they are playing.

Please give Jacqui your suggestions and comments on any matters that you think will benefit Parcent and all its people, and the part that we residents can play in that. I feel we should build on the good will that has grown up during the last 18 months and not just think, Oh well, that's that done, now let's go back to our own little comfortable corner and let ''them'' get on with things! We are as much part of Parcent as anyone else, and should participate and help as much as we are able. I know Peter Chalmers has some good ideas with regard to keeping you informed of what is happening in and around Parcent, and I hope they will be put into practice in the near future.

I may not be able to send out these newsletters during July and August, but I am sure someone else will keep you informed if anything important arises. I hope you all have a very pleasant and relaxing summer, wherever you spend it, and I look forward to getting back to work in September once more.

All best wishes, Jenny
