Veïns de Parcent – Newsletter Nº 68 – 26th September 2007

Dear friends,

General meeting on Friday, 28th September at 8 p.m. in the Town Hall
This is just a reminder that the meeting is this Friday evening and we hope that a reasonable number of Veïns members will be able to attend. We shall be electing a new Committee and many thanks to those who have volunteered to be on it. A financial statement will be also be given and a resume of past events as well as some ideas for future activities.

Now that the Veïns is officially registered in Alicante as a non-profit making Association, we will be able to open our own account at CAM bank (to date, we have been using an account in the name of L'Aixevega) and with new signatories. In future we will have to keep any money that is not strictly a "donation" in a separate account, from which money can be passed to the Veïns account as a donation whenever necessary.

The future of Parcent
As you know, the draft General Plan proposed by the previous administration has now been officially withdrawn, and a new plan will be drawn up as quickly as possible. BUT the 3 PAIs are still awaiting a decision at the Conselleria. A meeting was held on Monday, 24th September between the new Consejero, Garcia Anton, and representatives of AUN (also attended by Jacqui Cotterill) and it seems that Garcia Anton is much more prepared to listen to the points being made by AUN than the previous Consejero, sr Pons. A further meeting is planned in about a month's time, when he has had a chance to read the dossier that AUN gave him.

BUT it is most important to realise that, whatever happens, all of us still need to maintain an active interest in the future of Parcent. Householders in areas eventually designated for development will need to negotiate with prospective developers, however many houses are planned, especially over infrastructure provision and costs. The Council will, of course, do everything possible to get the best deal available for those involved, and to ensure that the plans are sustainable. We have won some important battles, but the "war" continues. We will need further legal advice so do not give up supporting those who are trying to help you now!

Maggie Halsey
The family wished to have a small, private funeral and no fuss made. Gerry did mention to someone who attended that the Veïns had given her a new lease of life as she threw herself into protesting and fund-raising with the best of us. We shall miss her enthusiasm for the cause, and help at so many events.

Best wishes,

Jenny
